Community “For as in one body we have many parts, and all the parts do not have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ and individually parts of one another.” (Rom 12:4-5) An important aspect of our faith is our sense of community. We truly make up the body of Christ, and we hold Jesus at the center of our faith community. It is in this Cathedral family that we worship, pray, serve others and grow in faith together. Let us be grateful to God for that constant support and encouragement! The Christ Candle
This candle is lit at any available occasion in which the class (or faculty) is united in prayer. It serves as a reminder of Christ's abiding presence, as he said to his disciples: "where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Mt 18:20) The blue chi-rho symbol represents the first two Greek letters of the word Χριστός (or khristos, meaning "the anointed"), while the red Alpha and Omega Greek letters remind us that Christ is at the beginning and end of all our activities at Cathedral. The flame symbolizes the fire of the Holy Spirit, who brings us together. Each class candle is distinguished by a number of ribbons, one for each year of high school (and one white ribbon for the faculty). At the end of each school year the ribbons change, but the Christ Candle follows the students through their four years of high school. The Book of Remembrance The Book of Remembrance, which is a fixed part of our Chapel, is a reminder to the Cathedral faith community of our participation in the communion of saints. Any student or faculty member who has lost a relative or close friend to death can have the deceased person's name placed in this book as a way of remembering them in prayer. This can be done throughout the month of November, the month of all souls. These names (as a whole) are remembered at every Mass in our Chapel. + Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Prayer Requests If you have any prayer intentions, either write them down in our Chapel's Intention Book, or email them to Mr. V. He will pray for them personally. If you would like the prayer intention to be read aloud at Morning Prayer, please specify that in your email. Email your requests to Mr.V.CHS@gmail.com. Peace! |
