Planned Giving

Planned Giving is a planning process that provides for the future well-being of your family and at the same time helps to support the continued growth of Cathedral High School. Planned gifts include, but are not limited to; bequests, gift annuities, trusts, tangible assets (art, collectibles), life insurance, real estate and the use of retirement plan assets.

Over the next twenty years in the United States of America there will be an enormous transfer of wealth as “The Greatest Generation” passes their wealth to their children and other beneficiaries. It is estimated that more than $47 Trillion will be handed on to the next generation through wills and other estate plans.

Cathedral High School, like all educational and nonprofit organizations, hopes that some of our many friends will remember the school with fondness as they make plans for the disposition of their estates.

There are many ways to assist Cathedral in your plans for a Will or other legacy financial instruments.

Bequests through a Last Will and Testament

The most common form of charitable gift is a bequest through a Last Will and Testament. To leave a gift to Cathedral in you will please ask your attorney to use the following phrase when assigning the bequest: "Roman Catholic Bishop of Springfield, A Corporation Sole to benefit Cathedral High School, Surrey Road, Springfield, MA."

Stocks and Other Appreciated Property

Please contact the Office of Advancement at Cathedral High School to arrange for transfer of stocks or other real property.

Insurance Policies

Another way of assuring that the school would receive a gift from your estate is to name the school as a beneficiary of an insurance policy. The assignment of the school should read: "Roman Catholic Bishop of Springfield, A Corporation Sole to benefit Cathedral High School, Surrey Road, Springfield, MA."

Annuities, Trusts and Other Financial Plans

After consulting your personal attorney and/or financial planner, please alert Cathedral High School so that the school can make arrangements to accept a gift through an annuity, trust or other financial vehicle that would benefit the donor or a third party and the school.

If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact the Office of Advancement at Cathedral by calling 413-782-5285 x4114.

Since this giving process involves important legal requirements, the Advancement Office can assist in answering many of your questions. The office has access to attorneys and other professional advisors to ensure the proper planning is done to maximize the current and future benefit to your family and Cathedral High School.

Please contact Ned Hogan or call 413-782-5285 x 4114.
